What is Muay Thai?

Muay Thai is a form of kickboxing originating in Thailand. Considered the “King of Ringsports” Muay Thai can be described as the art of 8 limbs. Utilizing punches, kicks, knees and elbows, Muay Thai is one of the most effective forms of martial arts in the world. And, it’s a great workout too. How large are your martial arts classes?

Our classes vary in size from day to day and depending on which class you take. On average, we have class sizes of approximately 10 people.

Will I get hurt?

Fit Plus promotes a safe gym environment and is very eminent that all students follow this philosophy. During exercises and conditioning class, instructors are always looking out to ensure students are using correct form, to avoid injuries. As with any contact sport, there is minimal risk of injury.

What should I expect during my first class?

In your first class you will be introduced to your instructor that will make sure you are feeling comfortable and working at your own pace during the warm up. If technique requires to be paired up, the instructor will be sure to find you an experienced student that will help you and assist you with fundamentals, and if needed will modify the exercise so you can work at a pace that works for you. It’s not just hard work. In case we forgot to mention, you can expect to have fun too.

Am I required to wear a uniform?

Yes, Fit Plus is an academy and all of our students are required to wear functional team attire. Thai shorts and athletic shirt for Muay Thai and Kimono/Gi for Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.

I’m not exactly in the best shape.  What is expected of me?

An open mind and your best effort.  Our trainers will guide you though the rest.

What is Brazilian Jiu Jitsu?

BJJ promotes the concept that a smaller, weaker person can successfully defend against a bigger, stronger, heavier assailant by using proper technique, leverage, and most notably, taking the fight to the ground, and then applying joint-locks and chokeholds to defeat the opponent.  Refer to our Brazilian Jui-Jitsu page to learn more.

Will I be expected to fight?

No. Martial Arts is for everyone and only a select few make the decision to compete. Should you choose to compete, we have classes and specific training regimens geared specifically for that. Students are guided slowly during sparring sessions with increased intensity over time.

Do I need experience to train at Fit Plus?

Absolutely Not. We have classes to suit everyone from their first day to advanced. We’re a family-friendly gym with the goal to provide fitness programs, anti-bullying and elite MMA, BJJ, Boxing and Muay Thai Kickboxing classes to all levels. 

Do you offer private training or 1-on-1 classes?

Yes! We have instructors available for private training sessions. Our world-class MMA, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Kickboxing, Boxing and fitness coaches will help you achieve your goals.

I want to fight.  How long before I can have my first fight?

It all depends on how frequently and hard you train.  It could be as little as 6 months depending on which discipline you study and aim to compete in.  Fighting is an art and it is our responsibility that you have all your tools in your tool belt before you step up and meet someone in the ring
